Support the Athlete

  • Cheer positively for all players on the team.
  • Encourage effort, growth, and resilience — not just outcomes.
  • Let the car ride home be a safe, pressure-free space.
  • It is often recommended that parents only say positive things to their children, such as "I love watching you play," allowing for space to build resilience.

Respect the Coaches

  • Coaches manage playing time, strategy, and development.
  • Avoid sideline coaching, signals, or instructions.
  • Questions or concerns should be addressed after the tournament, privately and respectfully. Please do not approach the coach about playing time until after 48 hours post tournament. https://jvavolleyball.org/updating-the-24-hour-rule-to-a-48-hour-rule-club-volleyball-policy/#:~:text=The%2024%2Dhour%20rule%20is,time%20or%20an%20athlete's%20role.

Model Sportsmanship

  • Be respectful to referees, opponents, and tournament staff.
  • No negative comments, gestures, or confrontations — in person or online.
  • Remember: you represent the club at all times.

Follow Club Travel Policies

  • Adhere to hotel and supervision rules.
  • Ensure athletes arrive on time and prepared.
  • Communicate promptly if travel plans change.

Keep Perspective

  • One tournament ≠ a player’s value or future.
  • Development includes tough matches, limited playing time, and learning moments.
  • The goal is long-term growth — physically, mentally, and as a teammate.
